With only 365 pieces available, this watch, the third IWC-Bucherer Portugieser collaboration, draws heavily on the brand's nautical roots with its navy-inspired blue and white color scheme. The Portugieser collection is recognized for its references to the sea. The entire range recalls the ancient nautical instruments that have enabled explorers of history to map the oceans of the globe. Rather than giving its name to the Portuguese Navy or to a famous sailor from the Iberian Peninsula, the collection is named after two Portuguese clients who approached IWC in 1939, requesting a wristwatch with the precision of a maritime chronometer. This is the first time that an official Bucherer Blue Portugieser has been manufactured in a case other than a rose gold case or with a dial displaying a majority color other than blue. It is rather rare for a brand to produce a Bucherer Blue series watch that does not feature a predominantly blue display.
